Intellectual Parking Guidance System

China TransInfo'amp;s Intellectual Parking Guidance System is an integrated hardware-software system advising drivers of empty parking spots in a parking lot through large visual displays. The system minimized disorder caused when drivers are unable to easily locate available parking spaces.


  • The IPGS adopts a network structure, which makes the currently popular B/S structure possible for the system implementation;
  • The development mode of the IPGS includes both the regular application development for control center software and the low-layer development (embedded system) for data collecting and releasing systems;
  • Standard interface for the third party. The IPGS is expected to have a future expansion as a result of being a branch of the intelligent traffic system and it will be integrated into the entire intelligent traffic system as well;
  • Data is communicated through two ways, i.e. cable (optical fiber) transmission and wireless (GPRS) transmission;
  • The IPGS historical data serves as the supporting information for decision making in the local planning and construction, therefore a powerful database management system is required for data storage and backup.

  • Parking Space Information Management

The central controlling system communicates with the parking lot data collection subsystem in real time, collecting information on vacant vehicle parking spaces, and parking lot status (e.g. closures or equipment failure etc.). After the data is analyzed, the information is displayed externally for drivers:

  • System Status Monitoring

Real time monitoring of parking lot data-collection equipment, parking space status, equipment and network connections, and error reporting


  • Equipment Management

Management of parking lot data collection equipment and parking space information equipment within the system, including automatic addition and subtraction of equipment from the system.

  • GIS based Parking Guidance Management

Data mapping onto e-maps, including real time information and static information. Real time information includes parking lot equipment status, parking space information equipment status, and the number of empty parking spaces. Static information includes the distribution of parking lots and the distribution of parking space information equipment.


  • System Management

Setting and maintaining of component parameters and operation parameters, including network parameters of equipment within the system, parking space information update cycles, equipment information inquiry cycles, and system starting times and finishing times.


  • Adoption of low-cost and easily-scalable GPRS
  • Adjustable screen brightness ensuring display clarity 24 hours a day
  • Transmission of real-time parking space information through the internet and support for parking space online reservations via SMS
  • LED back-lights ensure bright and clear displays, increasing the effective visibility in foggy and rainy weather
  • Quick and convenient system updates and capacity expansion functions to allow information sharing with other information systems or platforms
